Frequently asked questions
Nothing happens when I AirDrop a photo.
Open the HeicDrop panel from the menu bar and check that “Auto-convert” is on and that Downloads is listed under Watched folders. If macOS asked for Downloads access and you declined, re-enable it in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
Can I convert photos that are already on my Mac?
Yes. Drag them onto the HeicDrop panel, right-click them in Finder and choose Services › Convert with HeicDrop, or open them with HeicDrop.
The JPEG is not created.
HeicDrop never overwrites existing files. If a JPEG with the same name already exists, the file is skipped. Check the “Recent” list in the panel for details.
Does it convert videos?
Turn on “Also convert HEVC videos to MP4”. Only HEVC (High Efficiency) movies are re-encoded; H.264 movies are left as they are.
Where did my original HEIC files go?
Check the Original setting in the panel: Keep, Move to Trash, or Move to subfolder (“HEIC Originals” inside the watched folder).
How do I stop HeicDrop from starting at login?
Turn off “Launch at login” in the panel, or remove it in System Settings › General › Login Items.
